Bravo Programs of America Builds Success Stories Here in Detroit

IMG_20180301_171125We were honored with the opportunity to perform for Bravo Programs 2018 Scholarship Dinner at Zuccaro’s Banquet in Chesterfield Township this month.  The dinner provided by Zuccaro’s was outstanding.  Without a doubt, some of the very best banquet food we have encountered.  Still, the real star was Bravo Programs, a non-profit 501 C 3 charity organization based in Michigan that serves “aged out” foster youth ages 18-24 with scholarships for college or trade schools.

Turning 18 or 21 for your typical American means newfound independence. But for more than 20,000 young adults in this country, it means that it’s time to do something. For many of these youths, the challenges that start in their teen years and early 20’s such as academic failure or unplanned pregnancies continue throughout the rest of their lives.

For the few young adults that leave foster care and make it to college, many challenges await them. Often they cannot afford textbooks, have no place to go over holiday breaks when school closes, and find the college system difficult to navigate. It is BPA’s mission through education to provide a pathway to success and achieve the American dream.

BPA has awarded over $70,000 to twenty-eight students. They are supported by an all-volunteer staff and board. Over ninety-seven cents of every dollar donated goes directly to scholarships. As a result, BPA has received the “Gold Transparency” rating by Guidestar.com

BPA is serious about the mission of educating foster youth through scholarships for community colleges, trade schools and major universities. They believe that young adults are one of America’s most important investments and that education is their way out.

A Vow of Love: I Promise to Love You for All Of Our Tomorrows

20161008_160756Jenna and John had an elegant wedding day at the Detroit Athletic Club.  Once you’ve visited the DAC, it’s clear why this is one of the premier wedding locations in metro Detroit.  The setting is grand, the staff is phenomenal and the dining experience superb.  Marianne Thai of Laura Davis and Company orchestrated  a beautiful event and made it seem effortless. Fleur Detroit created a lush backdrop composed of white roses, hydrangeas and orchids for the alter area. Bill Fenton officiated the ceremony spoke sagely on the topic of love, its purpose and ability to bring meaning to our lives.  He also included  Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  The ceremony also included two readings. Larry read a beautiful work by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin titled “Love is An Adventure and Conquest” followed by Cindy who read “A Key to Love” by an unknown author.  The couple wrote their own vows and spoke them beautifully with a sprinkle of both laughter and tears.  They also included a tree planting ceremony while we played A Thousand Years.  20161008_163557

The couple recessed to our quartet arrangement of  Thinking  Out Loud by Ed Sherran following which we moved downstairs to the fireplace and played contemporary music for the crowd. We had some folks singing along with us while others were swaying to the music.  The party continued with MaryAnn Productions providing music through dinner.  It was a memorable night for the Korenic and Cook families. We send John and Jenna our best wishes!
