Anchored in Love! Wedding professionals are the key to a Detroit Yacht Club Wedding

Detroit_Yacht_Club_1[1]The Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Isle is one of metro area’s unique treasures.  Located on a private island along the banks of the Belle Isle Park in Detroit, the DYC is of Mediterranean design and was completed by George Mason in 1922. Mr. Mason also designed the Gem Theater, Masonic Temple and the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

We had the pleasure of playing for Amelia and Jeff’s wedding in front of the majestic fireplace.  It was clear throughout the ceremony that this couple had a great sense of humor and filled each other’s life with laughter. We know they had a blast selecting the music because it was fun for us to play and greatly appreciated by their guests. Who wouldn’t enjoy “My Girl” by Smokey Robinson for the bridal party, “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton for the Amelia’s processional the familiar Beatles standard “All We Need is Love” for the recessional?. We ran into some old friends while there including Ashley from Festoons and Flourishes who always does a phenomenal job and DeOndre of My Touch Weddings who can turn a wedding into an experience!  Ashley and the staff at Festoons and Flourishes are a class act and took the time to send us a thoughtful note the following week; “THANK YOU again for all of the amazing work that you and your team did to make their Wedding day such a great success!  As always…the music was beautiful!”  One of the pleasures of working in the wedding business is coming in contact with individuals such as Ashley and DeOndre whose sole purpose is to create the best possible PERSONAL experience for their clients.  It’s an honor to work with such outstanding professionals.  Amelia and Jess chose wisely and their wedding day was a memorable one. Best wishes to the happy couple!

Inspiring, traditional, and unique…The Masonic delivers a Memorable Wedding Experience

eschmidt04[2]A wedding at The Masonic is sure to create memorable moments for a wedding. Coordinator Melanie Matics provides a one-of-a-kind, individualized, custom wedding experience. The venue includes several options for weddings and receptions.  Shannon and Craig chose to have their ceremony in the historic chapel, a replica of the Westminster Abbey.  Though on a smaller scale, the chapel still seats 400 people, includes a balcony and provides a classic and historic surrounding.  We sat in the balcony which allowed our performance of the couple’s choice of contemporary songs to float down and fill the stone chapel.  We played the Israel Kamakawiwoʻole version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for the seating of the mothers and entrance of the groomsmen. The bridesmaids walked in to “A Thousand Years” while Shannon entered on her father’s arm to Pachelbel’s Canon in D.  The flowers were the creation of Pam Sullivan from Blumz Florist and were stunning. Shannon’s bouquet was composed of calla lilies with black feathers which tied into the bridesmaids black gowns. After the pronouncement of husband and wife, the couple recessed to the Beatles song “All You Need is Love”.

The Crystal Ballroom is classic beauty rich in Italian décor. We sat upstairs in the balcony and played for an additional hour while guests enjoyed the cocktail hour. The guests really enjoyed our Beatles and Journey songs. Shannon and Craig had a movie themed reception and requested Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and Skyfall to fit within their theme.  Mike Staff Productions provided the photography services and music for the reception. Their reputation is superb and ensures a memorable event. Congratulations Craig and Shannon and best wishes for a long and happy life together!

Award Winning Frutig Farms Hosts Sons Wedding Celebration

20161126_161718Congratulations to Edward and Melissa on their wedding at Frutig Farms in Ann Arbor. This was a family affair from start to finish as Edward is the son of Kelly and Ed, Frutig Farms owners.  Barn weddings have become very popular in the last ten years.  They offer clients a unique blend of history with the space for large wedding parties. The open simplicity provides clients with a blank slate for implementing their own design ideas.  Recently awarded the 2016 Best Venue for Large Weddings in Ann Arbor, Frutig Farms is a beautiful outdoor venue six miles from downtown Ann Arbor. The site overlooks a gorgeous pond set against natural wetlands and rolling fields. Uniquely restored historic buildings sit amongst beautiful perennial gardens. The couple chose to have their ceremony in one of the two barns known as The Valley and Edwards’s father acted as the officiant. It must have been an honor and delight for him to lead the couple through their vows to the pronouncement of husband and wife.  Barb Thayer was the coordinator and directed the day beautifully.  We sat up in the loft and had an excellent view of the proceedings. The couple chose all classical music for their ceremony including the Purcell Trumpet Voluntary for Melissa’s processional.

The cocktail hour and reception was held at Misty Farm, the second barn of the Frutig Farm holdings. At Melissa and Edward’s request, we played songs by Coldplay, Pharrell, Journey, Game of Thrones, Katy Perry and more. Larry Lee and Back In the Day were setting up for the reception which was sure to be a fantastic evening. We extend our thanks to the band for their help with sound and their encouraging applause.  We wish we could have stayed to hear their music! Congratulations to Edward and Melissa and we thank them for the honor of being a part of their wedding day and family’s celebration.

An Heirloom Gown and Officiating Brothers Make The Wedding Ceremony a Unique Family Event

20161105_152455Congratulations to Kelsey and Brad on their wedding at the Michigan League.  Their ceremony had so many unique qualities that are worth mentioning. William and Connor Flynt, brothers of the bride, officiated the ceremony.  Their mother shared with me that Kelsey and both her brothers were ministers.  In fact, Kelsey had officiated her brothers wedding and now the places were reversed. As one would expect with brothers officiating, there were a few childhood stories about cars and crashes that brought laughter into the day.

While Kelsey’s brothers were a highlight, it was Kelsey’s gown that made a breathtaking statement.  She processed to Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” in her mothers gown resplendent with  Chantilly lace.  Though a family heirloom, as the result of a talented seamstress, the dress still had a contemporary feel while honoring the tradition and recognizing the success of her parents marriage.

Congratulations to Brad and Kelsey!

Officiant Shares Words of Wisdom: “Love is About Participation”

201310180800261Nichole Bertucci of “A Simple I Do” shared profound words of wisdom during Calla and Tyler’s wedding ceremony at the historic Hartland Music Hall. Included among those wise word was the phrase “Love is not about possession but participation.”

Hartland Music Hall was built by members of the First Congregational Church in 1858. It is one the oldest public buildings in Livingston County, an outstanding example of Greek Revival architecture.  The building was a gift to the community of Hartland from John Robert Crouse, Sr. M. Crouse was a local philanthropist who performed many community services through a program he sponsored called the “Hartland Area Project.”  In February 1980, the Music Hall became another Livingston County structure to be included in the State Register of Historic Sites by the Michigan Historical Commission. A dedicated steward and renovator of the hall, Don, was on hand for Calla and Tyler’s ceremony and proved to be a great help along with the Ashley from Festoons and Flourishes.                                                                              20161022_152324

Tyler and Calla chose an eclectic mix of music for their ceremony. We played “Wagon Wheel”, John Legend’s “All of Me”, the nostalgic “Moon River” and the traditional “Pachelbel’s Canon”.  During the lighting of the Unity candle, we accompanied their two friends Andrea and Katie on a beautiful rendition of “So Are You To Me”, arranged for our string quartet by well known arranger and conductor, Matthew Croft.  In a  statement of their affection for their alma mater, the couple chose the MSU Fight Song for their recessional. Congratulations Calla and Tyler!

A Vow of Love: I Promise to Love You for All Of Our Tomorrows

20161008_160756Jenna and John had an elegant wedding day at the Detroit Athletic Club.  Once you’ve visited the DAC, it’s clear why this is one of the premier wedding locations in metro Detroit.  The setting is grand, the staff is phenomenal and the dining experience superb.  Marianne Thai of Laura Davis and Company orchestrated  a beautiful event and made it seem effortless. Fleur Detroit created a lush backdrop composed of white roses, hydrangeas and orchids for the alter area. Bill Fenton officiated the ceremony spoke sagely on the topic of love, its purpose and ability to bring meaning to our lives.  He also included  Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  The ceremony also included two readings. Larry read a beautiful work by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin titled “Love is An Adventure and Conquest” followed by Cindy who read “A Key to Love” by an unknown author.  The couple wrote their own vows and spoke them beautifully with a sprinkle of both laughter and tears.  They also included a tree planting ceremony while we played A Thousand Years.  20161008_163557

The couple recessed to our quartet arrangement of  Thinking  Out Loud by Ed Sherran following which we moved downstairs to the fireplace and played contemporary music for the crowd. We had some folks singing along with us while others were swaying to the music.  The party continued with MaryAnn Productions providing music through dinner.  It was a memorable night for the Korenic and Cook families. We send John and Jenna our best wishes!

A New Idea For a Well Known Detroit Wedding Venue

20160924_162122Alissa and Jared could not have asked for a more beautiful wedding day. The skies were cloudless and the temperature a refreshing 75 for an outdoor wedding. We’ve played many ceremonies on the lawn in front of the Belle Isle Conservancy. Usually, we are between the fountain and the building where no shade is available. On a hot summer day, it can get uncomfortable quickly.  For this wedding, we were behind the fountain, further back by the gates.  Not only was there shade available, but the guests got a great view of the fountain and observatory without the noise of visitors. We loved this new idea and will recommend it to other brides.

This was the first time that we had the pleasure of working with Ashley Lynch and her staff of Festoons and Flourishes. We were quite impressed with her efficiency and attention to detail. An alter area was defined on the lawn with a beautiful birch arch adorned with lush floral swags and columns holding additional flower arrangements.

The couple chose a mix of classical and contemporary music. We played O Mio Babbino Caro followed by Book of Love by the Magnetic Fields. The mothers were seated to Cinderella’s “A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes” while the bridesmaids, each dressed in different color and style of dress, processed to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. Alissa looked elegant in her bridal gown as she walked with her father to the contemporary version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’. Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the grand ballroom of the Detroit Yacht Club.

It was clear that excellent planning and attention to detail had been invested into making this day a success. From the placement of the ceremony to the heel savers offered to guests for their high heel shoes, thought was put into each detail. It was a pleasure to be a part of this couples wedding day and we wish Alissa and Jared the very best as they begin their life together.

Like a Race Car, The Fine Tuning of A Relationship Takes This Couple Across the Finish Line!

20160917_102906The love of two people and race cars were clearly present in Lachelle and Mike’s wedding at The Whitney in Detroit.  Pastor Paul Moldenhauer took every opportunity to make a correlation between Lachelle’s career and the joys of marriage.  The setting for the wedding ceremony was the 2nd floor landing of the Whitney under the gorgeous two-story Tiffany stained glass window. With the help of Samantha Cesarz, wedding coordinator at the Whitney, the event went off without a hitch.

The Whitney mansion is world famous for upscale dining in Detroit.  Completed in 1894, the Motor City landmark retains the exquisite charm of Detroit’s early upper echelon as a venue for all to enjoy.  The Mansion is 22,000 square feet and has 52 rooms (including 10 bathrooms), 218 windows, 20 fireplaces and numerous stained-glass windows crafted by Tiffany’s of New York It was the first residential home in Detroit to have an elevator for personal use, a hydraulic number.20160917_101306

The music that the couple chose was especially fitting for this historic turn of the century setting. We played the old romantic standards of Ella Fitzgerald, Andy Williams and Frank Sinatra. Lachelle chose a hymn, O Perfect Love, for her bridal processional and then the fun, “When I’m 64” by the Beatles for the recessional.  It was the ideal blend between the old and new.  Petite Fleur of Ferndale created gorgeous floral arrangements that fit the  historic setting of the Whitney.  And Jennifer Boris was on hand to capture all the beautiful moments in this grand setting.  Best wishes to Lachelle and Mike as they begin their lives together.
