Family is What Happens When Two People Fall in Love

The Rondo String Quartet has been performing for wedding and special events in the metro Detroit area for IMG_2294over 25 years.  It’s rare that we encounter a venue that we’ve not played at before but we were recently delighted with a new discovery.  George George Memorial Park, located in Clinton Township, is a 30-acre park donated to the township by the George family in memory of their Grandfather and was built without taxpayer funding. The park features a large children’s play area and playscape, a covered public pavilion for picnics and other community gatherings, a fountain plaza area, and more than 5,000 feet of walking and bike paths. A fountain at the front gate welcomes visitors to the park that now represents one of the township’s new jewels in its parks and recreation system. The park’s neatly groomed landscaping, wrought-iron arches and water fountains provides an elegant backdrop to wedding parties. Couples who are interested in having their wedding ceremony there have the option of the Bridal Garden or Brick Pavilion for a reasonable fee.IMG_2295

Eric and Katie had a beautiful day for their wedding in the pavilion.  David Mattocks led a touching ceremony that included a “family unity sand ceremony” which was symbolic for the joining together or Eric, Katie and Katie’s  son Connor into a new family unit.  We enjoyed Eric’s choices of contemporary music  for the seating of guests.  Quite a few heads turned when we begin playing Katie Perry’s “Firework” and “Marry Me” by Train.  Being a wedding of mixed religious backgrounds, we played the traditional Jewish selection “Dodi Li” for the mothers seating followed by Kanon in D for the bridal party and the traditional “Bridal Chorus” for Katie’s processional.  The title of “Family is what happens when two people fall in love” comes directly from the couple’s wedding program.  Eric spoke beautifully to Connor in the ceremony of his hopes and dreams for his stepson.  Many were moved by his words and Connor, in true young child form, announced he was ready for his nap.  That was a memory made and will be chuckled over in the coming years as this family grows together.  We wish them all the very best and thank them for the honor of being a part of their special day.
