Historic Timer Farm in Fowlerville Holds Fall Family Wedding

photo 4The day could not have been more beautiful for Katie and Joshua. Joshua’s family lives on a working farm and the couple chose to hold their wedding ceremony in the 100 year old barn. As the pictures show, Katie’s mother, Colleen Green, did an outstanding job decorating the barn. The use of fall colors, pumpkins, lighting and truly gorgeous floral arrangements, transformed this working barn into a warm chapel. We had the opportunity to play several songs that reflected this country setting including “Ashokan Farewell”, made famous by the Ken Burns PBS “Civil War” production, Vivaldi’s “Autumn” and Yiruma’s “The River Flows in You”. The Rev. Jason Lukis officiated and brought tender moments of humor to the ceremony. The six bridesmaids wore deep red gowns and processed to Beethoven’s Ode To Joy. Katie chose the flowing Pachelbel Canon photo 2for her processional. One of the highlights was a heartfelt rendition of John Denver’s “For You” sung and played by Joshua’s mother Lee Timer and accompanied by our quartet. Lee, a friend of our quartet, is a musician and plays for weddings frequently yet singing for your child’s wedding is certainly and emotional event. We were impressed by her ability to sing such a song without getting weepy. We all agreed that we would have had trouble!
Following the ceremony, the guests moved to a tent beside a field of corn for the cocktail hour and reception. We had the honor of playing for the cocktail hour and had a great deal of fun playing songs by Journey, Beatles, Ted Nugent and others. Fred Bear by Ted Nugent always gets a reaction! Several guests came up to us and expressed their surprise at a string quartet playing such music. They were expecting the usual classical music and we are always tickled when we get to widen their eyes and tickle their ears. The Timer Farms are well known for their award winning “Maple Syrup” and the couple gifted the guests with a bottle as a token of their thanks for sharing their day with them. It was quite an event and we were honored to be a part of it. We extend our best wishes to Joshua and Katie and wish them the very best in the coming years.
