Three Special Events Spice Up Rondo String Quartet’s Summer Season

Most of our 50+ engagements each year are wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours. Every once in a while we get to share our music in a different setting. This summer we’ve had three such opportunities, each unique and delightful. At the end of July, we had the pleasure of playing for an Italian Car Show that occurred at the Inn of St. Johns in Plymouth. This event is a precursor to the infamous Concours d’Elegance of America held at St. Johns for the first time after 32 years at Meadowbrook in Rochester Hills. Sitting out on the golf course, we played well known Italian arias and other works by Italian composers. Despite a brief rain delay, during which we visited with several guests and their charming dogs under out tent, we played some classic rock along with every Italian song in our repertoire right up until the announcement of “Gentlemen, start your engines”.

Later that same week, we had the pleasure of playing for the Michigan School of Professional Psychology 2013 Commencement. The mission of the MISPP is to educate and train individuals to become reflective practitioner-scholars with the competencies necessary to serve diverse populations as professional psychologists and psychotherapists. We’ve had the honor of playing for the school’s commencement exercise for several years now. The evening has all the pomp and elegance one would expect of an international leader in graduate education. We’re honored to be a part of the event each year.

A new experience for us was the “concert in the round” at Metro Detroit Christian Church in Farmington Hills. Our hour long performance for the welcoming audience was part of an evening which celebrated the arts and included a delicious dinner and art show featuring a local artist in the church’s newly appointed art gallery. We were wonderfully cared for by Anthony Williams and want to acknowledge the worthy mission of supporting and cultivating art appreciation in all its forms by the church leadership. They had a vision and have succeeded in enriching the lives of their membership with the arts. We were impressed by the number of young people present and their comfort in approaching us and speaking to us of their enjoyment at our performance. It was a refreshing evening and we hope to have the opportunity to be a part of their vision in the future.
